Heading to the FACSS conference in Louisville, KY – that’s “Federation of Analytical Chemistry & Spectroscopy Societies”.
Also, being poor. The advance registration for a “grownup” (vs student) member is $475… *faints*
I’m giving a talk on Monday, though, so hopefully that’ll be well received. If not, at least it’ll be an amusing memory to share when I interview for jobs with some of the same people I fail to entertain.
Back!

My parents, sister, and aunt came to town last week for a nice long visit. Well, nearly all of it was nice, except that my aunt fell and hurt her knee, and my parents and sister had a car accident on the way home. Tennessee was less kind to her visitors than was Michigan!
Well, I can’t blame TN for the accident, it actually happened in Georgia.
Thankfully, my aunt’s knee seems to have come through without serious harm, my mom’s car remains driveable and nobody was hurt.
Hopefully their next visit will not end in tragedy!!
Came to Cookeville

Moved on Monday!! Woohoo.
Woke up at 3 am (EST), got on the road about 5 am (EST), arrived about 3 pm (CST). That was a much better time than the previous record, set in June with my friend Carson when we came down to check out the town. Then again, it was a much less interesting trip – not even a stop for the tasty Indian food of Dayton!
The apartment’s nice, the town is nice. It was hot and sunny on Monday and Tuesday – today IS Wednesday, right? – with thunderstorms today.
Wait. I moved on Tuesday. Which is why I couldn’t remember anything I did here on Tuesday; it was all driving and unpacking, with a quick trip to Walmart to pick up dish soap and Tupperware. (To use as bowls, since my bowls are on their way down from Michigan.)
Today was Furniture Day, Part 1, in which I quested for the seldom-seen Nicer-than-the-Pricetag-Suggests Couch and the Desk of Affordability. I found the first, if it will fit into my apartment – still working on the desk.
Early start tomorrow, with more furniture coming, so I’m off to bed…
